Thank you for all the wonderful childhood memories……the Stoaway, fishing in North Wildwood, the boardwalk, Finche’s, waterskiing, and my first boat. No one has taught me more about family, integrity, hard work, common sense, generousity and a true love of life. I will always remember that twinkle in your eye. My utmost wish is that you will soon join your two favorite fishing buddies of past ( Uncle AL & George). I love you Uncle Joe!

I met POP when I met my best friend Theresa nd her family back when I was 9 or so. Majority of my life was in front of him.His home was our 2nd home and his love for us was always present.
My fondest memories are of yellow van rides to the beach- flounder fishing-Pop teaching us how to properly filet a flounder-him always with a cigar-treating all us kids to McDonalds when no other parent could afford it-fishing trips off his dock-his love for his dogs-Cuda/Diesel-his little hidaway in the backyard filled with all his tools-his scrapp’n metal-watching him love his grandkids better than I have ever seen a human do- He is a remarkable man and I am proud to say I LOVE HIM!

Joe is the greatest father figure, not only to his children/grandchildren. But to anyone that crossed his path. He always welcomes you into his home as if you were family. I have great memories of fishing with Joe and family. One time when we went out to the dock to go fishing on the boat . Well we went under the bridge and on the way back it was Hi tide, I was so afraid we couldn’t get back to the other side of the bridge. Joe told us to lay down and push of the top of the bridge to get by. I was so afraid but Joe assured me it would be alright and it was 🙂 To all your friends and family remember that keeping those great memories of Joe will truely help with the pain. Whenever you get sad always use those memories to get you threw these hard times. God bless all of you … Aunt Loretta

I have loved Pop my whole life. When I was a little boy living in Camden with my mom and sister ,I would look forward to trips with Pop. He would tell me stories of fishing spots , his time married to my mom, his son, (my brother), and living his life by his rules.
All of these things he did his way. My brother was raised by Pop. I had a great childhood with Joseph Mangino in my life. I think I am the man today because of his teachings to me. Hopefully I will do good by my kids like he has done for his. He always helped out his fellow man. I lost my father when I was just 3, and my brother when still in High School. Having Pop around seemed to make up for the other losses in my life.
He wasn’t technically a relative but he was / is like a father to me .
I love you Pop

Anthony

I regret not being able to see Pop as often I hoped I could. He is a good man, with strong perseverance and kindness to everyone. I may have only visited him a few times, but it doesn’t change the fact that he’s still the same Pop everyone knows and loves. Good luck to you, Pop, and may we see all see you up above when we reach our time as well.

I have lots of memories of a happy-go-lucky guy who always made the day a great one. Rides in the car were an adventure. My mom Mary, his big sister, was “in charge of Joey” growing up and every where that Mary went, Joey was with her.
Uncle Joe, thanks for being such a positive figure in my life when there are so few these days. You have been blessed with a wonderful loving family and a good life. God bless you.
Love,
Sandy

Hi Uncle Joe,

We have not been together since we moved away from NJ. My Dad, John the Fireman aleays spoke well of you. When I was old enough, we fished and talked and you are one of my favorite uncles. That was in the early 1950’s and I was 6-10 years old. [Personal updates about living relatives omitted.] Say hello to everyone for us and give them all kisses.

First, my condolences to Arlene and the family. Arlene, I remember you only as a little girl, [personal health detail omitted]. You were fortunate to have such a kind and loving father in your life growing up (and after).
Secondly, the website is a wonderful tribute to your dad and shows the mutual love between father, daughter, grandfather and grandchildren. What a beautiful way to be remembered. I wish you all well, “Uncle Joe” is in my prayers. God bless you.

I always loved stopping over when it was time for Kuda, and then diesel to get there nails cut. Pop would always pay me in fish he had caught that week. :^) He was definatly a loved and cherished part of alot of peoples lives and will be missed whole heartedly by all of the lives he touched.

Arlene and family,

What wonderful memories the “early” photos brought back. I lived across the street (on Monitor Road) from Joe and Pat in the early years of their marriage. It made me smile to see you with your Dad and Gypsy (yes, I remember the chihuahua’s name!) on the front lawn.

It was a simpler time and I am so happy to have been able to have people like Joe and Pat with whom to share it. I even recall your Mom and Dad taking me to see (and board) the USS Kitty Hawk at the Camden Shipyard.

My Mom passed away on May 12th (at 97 years old!), and I just know she must have smiled (as did my Dad and sister, Anna) when they saw Joe Mangino coming!

Please know that you and your Dad are in my prayers. May warm memories comfort you during this time of sorrow.

Peace! Love! Smiles!

Arlene,

We have not seen each other since you were a very young lady. I am sorry for your loss and even sorrier that as we moved west, we did stay in touch with you and the family. Uncle Joe is one of my favorite people and he taught me a lot about fishing and was a close friend of my dad. I wish you well and if you ever get to the Land of Enchantment (New Mexico), please let us know.

I have nothing but the fondest memories of “Uncle Joe”. Many are fishing related and you’ve heard them before. My best memories of of just being around him. It was always and education, he had so much to share. He was generous beyond generous. I remember spending endless summers in my youth hanging with Joe and Tony on weekends riding motorcycles, fishing, cooking crabs, or just having fun in that old truck.

I will miss him but will always have a place in my heart and remember those summers in Wildwood. My Mother Florence is one of two surviving sisters of Joe and she will forever miss her brother.

I grew up in Woodlynne behind Joe’s home. I lived at [street address omitted] across the alley way from Joe. My best memory of Joe was when he used to ride his Indian Motorcycle and park it in front of Loretta’s. He was older than I was, but always had time for the kids in the neighborhood. My Mom passed away in 1994 and when we went to clean out the house on Cedar Avenue, we found coal in her basement, so I went out back and across the alley to ask Joe if he wanted it for his coal burning stove in the garage, but he told me he got rid of that years ago. We had a nice conversation about all the changes in Woodlynne and that was the last time I saw him. Your old photos brought back a lot of good memories, thanks for sharing them. You have my deepest sympathy in the passing of Joe. He was of the old school and I am sure he will be missed by many. God Bless your family.

Our Beloved Joe … Pop. An amazing man who shared his time with his beloved family and their friends. My children knew him as their best friends Pop. He made their days memorable with activities and good outside fun. The fishing pier in North Wildwood, the fresh flounder, the playground in Wildwood, the drives in his truck !
His unique smile and his cigar … What a true hardworking and admirable man we we blessed to have in our lives. My son and daughter have great memories of Pop
